Petfinder.com announced that it is celebrating both its 10th birthday and 10 millionth adoption today. Petfinder.com, which is the largest online database of adoptable animals, kicked off its celebration on the Today Show, live in the show's world famous plaza, by surprising 10 10-year-old children on the air with a special dog handpicked and adopted by parents through the Petfinder.com site.

The www.Petfinder.com celebration debuted today at approximately 9:45 AM on the Today Show with an interview with Betsy Saul, www.Petfinder.com president and co-founder. Ms. Saul helped The Today Show introduce each dog to her new owner, decorated with a red gift bow attached to her leash. Each child recently turned 10 years old and believed they would be testing toys on the set of the Today Show. Instead they were surprised with the ultimate birthday present -- the dog they had long begged their parents for.

"We were so thrilled to share such an important milestone with the Today Show and its viewers," said Ms. Saul. "We are celebrating our birthday and these 10 pets are representative of the 10 million adoptions we've facilitated over the past 10 years. Together with the animal welfare community, we are making great strides toward reaching our goal of finding homes for all adoptable pets."

Among the children were residents of New York, New Jersey, Vermont, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania. Each exited the studio with a lifetime canine companion at their side. The dogs were a great looking group of assorted types, ages and sizes, all of whom were specifically chosen by each child's parents from the Petfinder.com website.
