Fantastic Four Movie w/link to pics of cast

I was originally trying to turn this into a column, but I have something else in mind for next month already and didn't want to sit on this for 2 months. So anyway, enjoy my thoughts on the new Fantastic Four movie.

First let me begin and say I've never really been a fan of the Fantastic Four. Just not my thing. Their powers were just a little too hokey for me (not like the superior 5 fingered bitchslap of doom). However they do have the benefit of the single coolest villian of all time in Doctor Doom. Forget the Joker, Lex Luthor, Magneto, or anyone else. It's all about Doom. Despite not really caring for them though, they're more or less the oldest Marvel comic around so as Ali G would say, "much respect," and the movie is probably a good idea. So they have just released pictures of the main cast. You can see them at following link: Article with pics of The Fantastic Four

The Thing looks great. Michael Chiklis, from the FX TV show The Shield is perfectly cast in this role. No arguments about that. His costume, or the special effects, or whatever is going on there looks really good. Next on the list is Jessica Alba as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman. She's hot, hard to deny that, but I'm not completely convinced she'll be right. She can be very soft spoken though, and originally in the comic Sue was extremely shy and quiet so if they go in that direction it could be okay. I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt.

Now we have the two generic looking guys. First we have the Human Torch It really it doesn't matter what he looks like as long as the special effects look good when he FLAMES ON!! They've cast Chris Evans in the role. I didn't know who he was so I looked him up on IMDB. Apparently he was the main character in Not Another Teen Movie. Is this really a good idea? Whenever I look at him, I'm only going to be able to think of that retarded movie now. He's probably a mistake. Last, is Reed Richards being played by Ioan Gruffudd. Yeah I've got no clue who he is either, even after looking him up on IMDB. If you were one of the 7 people that saw King Arthur he played Lancelot. I wasn't one of those seven though so I've no clue who he is. No opinion on this, but Reed is a pretty damned important guy not just in the Fantastic Four, but in all of Marvel Comics. So I hope Mr. Gruffudd is ready to pull out a Hugh Jackman and come out of nowhere to own this role.

Ultimately though this movie is going to depend on Doom and for this they cast Julian McMahon, from Nip/Tuck and Charmed fame. Like Jessica Alba as Sue Storm I have reservations about this, but oddly enough I think I like this choice. He doesn't scream Doctor Doom to me. Hell, he doesn't even subtly hint Doom to me. But he can play arrogant very well and that is Doom's defining characteristic. The costume will go a long way in covering up any shortcomings he might have. So final judgement will be held until more information is revealed. At any rate, I cannot wait to see the trailers for the film, even if I don't rush out and see it.
