The long awaited sophomore release from High Contrast is no less than amazing. When High Contrast exploded onto the electronic music scene in 2002, we knew we would hear more from him and we've just been waiting for the next evolution. After being considered one of the top 100 albums in that year, "True Colors" got amazing reviews. This album going to be no different.
After touring America for the past two years, "High Society" is one of the most anticipated releases of 2004. "High Society" features some of the UK's leading talents in Hip Hop and R&B, such as Dynamite MC, Spoonface, and Nolya.
The album begins with "Lovesick." This is definetly going to be a favorite track for many listeners and it's simply an amazing opener. "Lovesick" is a tune that will make you want to leave your room and go out for a night on the town, it just has that kind of vibe. In fact, if a night out on the town were a soundtrack, it would be "High Society"!
The second track on the release, "Tutti Frutti", along with "Lovesick", High Contrast puts a little bit of "The Diva" into your Drum and Bass. The vocals are soulful and full of attitude, a combination you will absolutely love! This may also be a great album to cross over to the soulful house lovers. What a great way to start picking up a taste in Drum and Bass.
The title track from the album, "High Society" features Dynamite MC. This track is a bit more downtempo but just as soulful. "High Society" still confirms that there's nothing hotter than a British MC to sidekick along sultry DnB.
After a few more down tempo tracks, High Contrast delivers with "Brief Encounter". He seems to just let go and releases himself with this high energy track with beautiful female vocals included for a dash of elegance.
He ends the album with "Twilight's Last Gleaming," which surpisingly enough, manages to kindle even more of that diva-esque sound we heard on the first two tracks. It's absolutely killer! Emotional vocals and even more soul, "Twilight's" going to be another favorite hit on the CD and it's a great way to bring the album to a close.
We recommend you pick this album out and if you've lost a little faith in drum and bass over the last two years or so, looking for that soul and "jazzy, bouncy jungle" style of the mid to late 90's, you are going to absolutely fall in love with "High Society". It's not the same style, but it's another great evolution of what was so right about Drum and Bass back then.
